AEB Remembers

Terry Luukkonen

It has been seven years since USA Broomball, Duluth Broomball and the broomball community as a whole, lost a beloved family member. Terry Luukkonen left a footprint on the broomball community that will not be forgotten. Terry revitalized a once proud broomball haven in Duluth back to prominence from 2006-2012. In those years, Terry produced several teams that not only competed, but won championships at both the state and national level. The league also produced players that would go on to play for Elite teams such as QA, Inferno, and Chiefs. Terry’s team, “The Machine” won several championships in both Men’s and Co-rec State and Nationals. He was able to bring new players into the game and introduce them to the sport. Terry played a pivotal role when USA Broomball hosted the 2011 National Championships in the newly christened Amsoil Arena, just three months after the facility’s grand opening. Terry was an ardent supporter of USA Broomball, and was the recipient of the prestigious USA Broomball Ambassador Award. He earned that recognition in 2011. The award now bears his name as the “Terry Luukkenon /USA Broomball Ambassador Award.” There will be a new recipient in 2021 at the National Championships. The recipient will be announced in Septembe 2020. The Mag, USA Broomball and the whole broomball community remembers Terry Luukkenon. Terry, you are forever, “Elite!”
